David Jefferson

David Jefferson is a Georgia-born writer and PhD student in Public Policy at Northeastern University. His research explores the intersections of race, land, and food, with a focus on Black foodways, ecological identity, and carceral nutrition. He examines how food policy, prison labor, and land access shape the lives of Black communities and how food has historically served as both a site of violence and a tool for liberation. David’s work centers the practices of Black farmers, land stewards, and abolitionist food justice advocates who are building alternatives rooted in care, memory, and sovereignty. In addition to his academic work, he is a photographer and storyteller committed to documenting the people and places transforming our food systems from the ground up.
